University-Wide Platform: Handshake
Handshake is a fast, easy, and smart system that connects all UMD students and alumni with jobs, internships and career services. The platform provides access to positions around the world, as well as part-time and full-time jobs on campus and in the surrounding community (as of July 2023, UMD has switched to Handshake as an institution and no longer uses Careers4Terps). Opportunities on Handshake
Handshake includes several opportunities. Employers of all fields use Handshake to post events, such as career fairs and workshops, where students can network with potential employers. Potential employers also use Handshake to post current job listings, specifically to attract the student talent of University of Maryland. In other words, compared to generic job search websites, Handshake brings opportunities from employers directly to the UMD community to create talent pipelines.
In addition, Handshake houses several online resources for UMD students to learn new skills or practice for interviews. Students are able to create an online profile with their job experiences and education, along with storing their resume and cover letter. If you submit a position, employers and recruiters on Handshake can gain easy access to your profile and learn more about you. Check out these opportunities below!
Use Handshake to RSVP for UMD-based and employer events, career fairs, workshops, and information sessions, led by University Career Center. Click on the event for more details and register with the "+ Join Event" button. Joining events are a great way to learn new skills, network with fellow students, and meet with potential employers.
Search for jobs and internships on Handshake. You can also search Handshake's employer database and follow employers for important updates and events. Click on the job to learn more and apply externally on the employer's website.
Handshake includes several online tools and resources. These can be found by clicking "Career Center" on the left-side panel and then "Resources."

You can create an online profile on Handshake where you can add your interests, education, work experiences and relevant courses. Handshake also allows you to store relevant documents, such as cover letters and resumes.
