Graduate Outcomes Assessment

Student learning outcomes focus on what a student knows or can do after completing a course or program. The assessment of these outcomes is the national standard for improving teaching and learning in higher education.

The Provost's Commission on Learning Outcomes Assessment leads UMD’s engagement in this assessment. The Graduate Outcomes Assessment (GOA) Committee, chaired by the dean of the Graduate School, works closely with the commission to tailor assessment practices, objectives, and metrics to graduate education, with doctoral, master's, and graduate certificate programs being assessed on a biannual basis.

We encourage UMD’s graduate faculty, students, and administrators to explore this section to learn more about the GOA Committee’s efforts, as well as guidelines and deadlines for submitting reports.
