GS Summer Research Fellowships
Summer Research Fellowship program offered by the Graduate School includes both the Graduate School Summer Research Fellowships and the narrowly targeted Kulkarni Summer Research Fellowship.
Both the Graduate School Summer Research Fellowship and the Kulkarni Summer Research Fellowships provide support to outstanding University of Maryland doctoral students at “mid‐career,” that is, in the period approximately before, during, or after achievement of candidacy. The fellowships provide doctoral students the opportunity to concentrate fully on their own scholarly activities and research, for the duration of a summer, at a critical moment in their graduate studies. The fellowships carry a stipend of $5,000 with specific cost-share requirements, as detailed in the Guidelines. These fellowships are not intended for dissertation completion and there is no tuition award.
Eligibility: Eligible candidates must be UMD doctoral students who have excellent qualifications, are making demonstrable progress through their program, and can show that a summer of focused work will enable them to prepare for or complete a key benchmark in their program’s requirements.
Nomination Process: Eligible students must be nominated by their unit. Each department/program may nominate up to two students for the Graduate School Summer Research Fellowship and up to two students for the Kulkarni Fellowship. Nominations from Departments are due to the Graduate School by noon on Wednesday, March 8, 2017*.
*Eligible students must contact their department for the department’s internal deadline.
