Spring 2021 Deadline Reminder for Graduate Students

Remote Defenses: Dean Fetter has automatically approved remote dissertation and theses defenses to be held remotely by any or all committee members for spring and summer 2021. For guidance on remote defenses, please go visit this webpage for more information.
Nomination of Committee Forms are due to the Office of the Registrar (OoR) 6 weeks ahead of a defense. Emergency committee changes can be made up to 24 hours ahead of the oral defense. Emergency committee changes (within 24 hours of the oral defense) are processed by the Graduate School and should be submitted via this form. This form triggers an email to Assistant Dean Scott Roberts and Associate Dean Brooke Liu for review.
REC Request Form (go.umd.edu/gs-rrd): The committee chair is required to submit a Record of Examining Committee (REC) request form at least 10 business days ahead of the oral defense date.
REC out through Adobe Sign: The Graduate School sends the REC form to the entire committee 3-5 business days before the oral defense to the email addresses submitted on the request form.
SPRING 2021 DEADLINES

February 19: Nomination of Dissertation Committee form.

March 1: Nomination of Thesis Committee form.

April 20: Completed REC for dissertations. Dissertations must also be submitted to the ETD system and the Electronic Publication form must also be submitted.

April 27: Completed REC for theses. Theses documents must also be submitted to the ETD system along with the Electronic Publication form.

May 27: Final date to submit the Approved Program form and U.achieve audit to the Office of the Registrar (registrar-graduate@umd.edu).
