What is the PhD Career Navigator Online Tool?  

      • An online tool that will enable you to learn more about how to move from your PhD program or postdoc to a job--in small manageable bites!
      • Each module can be completed in 45 minutes anytime anywhere. Modules can be completed in any order. You can enroll in two multi-part workshops that use the modules: What are You Going to Do with Your PhD (4 weeks) and Internship and Job Search for PhDs (5 weeks).

 6/8/21 1-2 PM  Building a Professional Network Session This pop-up session will guide you through Module 2 of PhD Career Navigator, explaining how to build a professional network. In this session, you will participate in a brief activity on networking, along with learning about some of the resources in ELMS and Aurora. You do not have to be registered for PhD Career Navigator to join this session! For more information, contact DCC Shakia Asamoah (sasamoah@umd.edu).
6/15/21 3-4 PM Transferable Skills Session This pop-up session will guide you through Module 3 of PhD Career Navigator with an activity focused on decoding a job ad and identifying what your transferable skills are. You do not have to be registered for PhD Career Navigator to join this session! For more information, contact DCC Ashley Pantaleao (apantale@terpmail.umd.edu).
6/22/21 12-1 PM Tailoring Resume Session This pop-up session will guide you through Module 4 of PhD Career Navigator, explaining how to present yourself and your story through various documents including your resume, CV, and cover letter. In this session, you will review and identify positives & negatives in other resumes, learn of different tailoring tips, and workshop your own resume. You do not have to be registered for PhD Career Navigator to join this session!  7/1/21 1-2 PM Researching Career Options Session This pop-up session is designed to help you figure out the steps of your individual career exploration. We will discuss the best ways to use your research skills as PhD students in the career exploration process. We will also review different tools and resources that can help you gather detailed information about career options to guide you in your decision-making. We will use PhD Career Navigator, which you do not have to be registered for to join this session, the Grad School's new tool Aurora, and Careers4Terps. 7/7/21 1-2 PM Effective Job Search Strategies (with LinkedIn) Session This pop-up session will guide you through Module 6 in PhD Career Navigator, explaining effective job search strategies. In this session, you will not only be able to identify a future employer but also participate in a brief activity that will engage LinkedIn as a job search strategy. You do not have to be registered for PhD Career Navigator to join this session! 7/14/21 3-4 PM Interview Prep Session This pop-up session will guide students through some parts of Module 7 of PhD Career Navigator, explaining how to prepare for an interview. In this session, you will participate in a brief activity on interview questions, along with learning some of the resources in ELMS and Interview Stream. Students do not have to be enrolled in PhD Career Navigator to participate in this pop-up session and are encouraged to register for this session!
7/20/21 3-4 PM Negotiating Salary Offers Session This pop-up session will guide you through Module 8 of PhD Career Navigator, explaining how to prepare for evaluating and negotiating job offers. In this session, you will participate in a brief activity that walks you through salary negotiations, along with learning some of the resources in ELMS. You do not have to be registered for PhD Career Navigator to join this session!
