Presented by Simone Warrick-Bell, Academic Counselor, The Graduate School
This workshop introduces the University of Maryland's Red Folder initiative, a resource designed to equip faculty and staff with tools to identify, respond to, and refer students in distress effectively. Participants will learn to recognize signs of mental health challenges in students, provide mindful and appropriate support, and connect them to professional campus resources. The session also emphasizes strategies to prevent compassion fatigue by helping faculty maintain clear boundaries, use referral systems efficiently, and prioritize self-care. Through practical examples, case scenarios, and discussions, attendees will leave with actionable skills to balance supporting students with preserving their own well-being. This workshop is ideal for faculty and staff seeking to enhance their ability to assist students while fostering a sustainable and mindful approach to their professional roles.
Registrants can attend one, two, or all three workshops in the New Year, New Knowledge series. Sessions will not be recorded. Questions? Please email lmacri@umd.edu.
