No presentation, just writing.  Bring your own coffee, share your writing goal for the morning, and kick your day off with a sense of accomplishment. “Putting Band-Aids on Things That Need Stitches: Immigration and the Landscape of Care in Rural America”

This reading group is designed to be a space for UMD graduate students, faculty, and staff to engage in critical thinking and discussion around social justice. We will focus on current research and work being done by the UMD community, particularly from our black and brown faculty and students. Articles are pre-selected and shared in advance of the discussion sessions. Faculty and staff from the Grad School will help facilitate the virtual space and discussions. Whenever possible, we will invite the authors to join us in the conversations.

11:30 - 12:30 p.m. - January 2021 Rita B. Leahy Career Series for PhDs-Careers in Biotechnology

Each of this year's eight sessions brings current students, postdocs, and Maryland alumni together explore career opportunities. Three UMD PhD alumni will describe the work that they do and share valuable career advice about how to identify and find meaningful work.

1:00 -2:00 p.m. - Pivoting to Your Plan B Career with ImaginePhD

In this  hands-on session we will use a career planning tool specifically created for humanists and social scientists. You will identify and begin exploring possible career paths aligned with your skills, interests and career priorities. While this session is most applicable for doctoral students and postdocs in the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences interested in exploring careers outside of academia, everyone is welcome.
