Health Insurance Reimbursement for Fellows
Full-time graduate students supported by Dean’s Fellowships (DFs), prestigious external fellowships, the Wylie Fellowship, or the Lee Thornton Fellowship, may be eligible to receive a reimbursement up to $1,500 per year for individual health coverage. Family health insurance is not covered. Eligibility is based on the type of fellowship and the amount of fellowship funding provided over the fall and spring semesters. Summer and/or winter stipends are not included.
Students may purchase the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) or another ACA compliant plan.
If eligible to request reimbursement for health insurance, students must complete the Health Insurance Reimbursement Request Form and provide proof of payment and copy of insurance card. Holders of prestigious external fellowships also must present a copy of the fellowship MOU, contract, or offer letter. The reimbursement request form and supporting documents should be sent to Barbara Rhine (baf@umd.edu) in the Graduate School, 2123 Lee Building.
The following graduate fellows are not eligible for Health Insurance Reimbursement
- Fellows holding internal fellowships other than University or Dean’s Fellowships;
- Fellows holding half or full-time assistantships entitling them to employee health insurance benefits; and
- Fellows who are part-time students.
