Health Insurance Reimbursement Requests for Full-Time Fellows
All full-time enrolled graduate students are required to have health insurance. For more information about this policy and health insurance options available for students, please visit our health insurance page.
Graduate students who are supported by Graduate School full-time fellowships (i.e. the Wylie Fellowship), or prestigious external full-time fellowships (i.e. the NSF GRFP), may be eligible to receive a reimbursement up to $1,707 per academic year for individual health coverage for the fellow. Reimbursement for the cost of dependent health insurance is not offered. For information about what constitutes a full time Fellowship please see the latest GA Stipend Memo.
Eligibility is based on the type of fellowship and the amount of fellowship funding provided over the fall and spring semesters. Summer and/or winter stipends are not included.
Eligible students must complete the Health Insurance Reimbursement Request Form and upload the following required documentation by the deadlines listed below:
- Email acknowledgement from your graduate program confirming your eligibility for the health insurance reimbursement (the email should be from your Director of Graduate Studies or Coordinator of Graduate Studies).
- A copy of your current health insurance card.
- A copy of your fellowship MOU/agreement or award letter.
- Proof of payment (screenshot of student bill or payment receipt).
Deadlines:
- Fall 2026 reimbursement requests are due October 15, 2026.
- Spring 2026 reimbursement requests are due March 15, 2027.
- Reimbursement requests received after the deadlines stated above will not be processed.

The following graduate fellows are not eligible for Health Insurance Reimbursement:
- Fellows holding departmental/program fellowships
- Fellows who are enrolled in a State of Maryland Employee Health Insurance plan; and
- Fellows who are part-time students.
