Amy Marquardt, PhD Candidate

Amy Marquardt, a PhD candidate in the Materials Science and Engineering Program, is making quite a name for herself! She is the first UMD student to receive the prestigious CIC-Smithsonian Fellowship for her research, which is revolutionizing the way society preserves cultural artifacts.

Marquardt is also the Judges' and People's Choice Winner of the 2014 Three Minute Thesis Competition, which challenged her and 16 other students from universities around the world to effectively explain their research to a non-specialist audience in just three minutes!
