We Value Our Global Community: Statement from Dean Fetter

Dear Graduate Students and Members of the Graduate School Community,

The U.S. Department of Education has recently requested documents and reports from the University of Maryland related to gifts from and contracts with foreign sources and entities.  Other institutions of higher education are being similarly investigated.

Some graduate students have been contacted by their departments to provide information related to this inquiry. I would like to thank students who have provided this information. Your participation is important to our compliance with the Department of Education’s request.

I would like to assure you, and especially members of our international graduate student body, that the University values and supports every member of our community, regardless of national origin. We are proud that our academic community includes people from around the world. This diversity strengthens the University and enriches our classroom discussions and our research endeavors.

If you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.  You may also contact your department chair, graduate director and coordinator, and your faculty advisor.

Sincerely,

Steve Fetter
Associate Provost and Dean, The Graduate School
