Doctoral Student Awarded Big 10-Smithsonian Fellowship
Doctoral student Sarah (Gussie) MacCracken has been awarded one of five Big 10 Academic/Smithsonian Institution Fellowships for the 2018-19 academic year. This one-year fellowship is offered by the graduate deans of the Big 10 Academic Alliance in partnership with the Smithsonian’s Office of Fellowships and Internships to support research conducted in residence in Smithsonian Institution facilities.

Thanks to native architects Vayden McMorris, Wilson Chong, Verma Panton, Victor Patterson, Mostyn Campbell, Handel Lawson, Herbert Robinson, Rupert Bond, and Herbert Bradford, Jamaican architecture has experienced a resurgence over the last 60 years. Verma Paton also has the distinction of being one of the first female architects in the Caribbean.

AGEP CIRTL GRANT
In 2016, The Graduate School at the University of Maryland, College Park was awarded the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) Alliances for Graduate Education and the Professoriate (AGEP) grant: AGEP CIRTL - Improved Academic Climate for STEM Dissertators and Postdocs to Increase Interest in Faculty Careers. This program advances knowledge about models improve pathways to the professoriate such that historically underrepresented minority (URM) students, postdoctoral fellows and faculty in STEM disciplines can be successful in academe.
Writing Resources for Faculty
The Office of Writing Initiatives supports the efforts of colleges, departments, and faculty to enhance the scholarly and professional writing of graduate students in a number of ways.
Faculty may consult or direct students to the range of resources available about writing generally and writing in the disciplines.
Faculty may also request workshops on various areas of writing for individual courses, programs, or departments. Please contact Dr. Linda Macri to make arrangements.
