Students

Graduate students comprise nearly one-third of the student population at the University of Maryland. In Fall 2016, the Graduate School enrolled 10,611 students, of which 38 percent were doctoral students, just under half were women, one-third were international students, and close to 21 percent were minorities, with an overall average age of 29.

Admissions Deadlines

Each program/department sets its own deadline(s). That is why it is imperative that applicants pay particular attention to the admissions requirements and deadlines set by their particular program of interest. Visit the Admissions section to learn more.

Assessment vs. Benchmarking

Once your graduate faculty have identified your primary learning outcome(s) to target for assessment, you can begin developing your assessment. To do so, it’s important to understand the difference between assessment and benchmarking. While both assessment and benchmarking are highly valuable activities for graduate learning outcomes, it is important to distinguish them for purposes of focusing graduate learning outcomes assessment (GLOA) activities.

Professional & Career Development

Career and professional development is the process of reflecting on one’s values, interests, and experiences, understanding careers available for one’s academic background, and gaining new skills from training and education in preparation for your future career. The Graduate School has many resources to help you with your career and professional development during your time at UMD.

Postdoctoral Affairs

The Office of Postdoctoral Affairs was established to provide the postdoctoral community with information, training, mentoring, and services in support of career development.
