Handshake

Handshake is a fast, easy, and smart system that connects all UMD students and alumni with jobs, internships and career services. The platform provides access to positions around the world, as well as part-time and full-time jobs on campus and in the surrounding community, at no cost to any current student or postdoctoral scholar. Handshake Career Center Resources

Through the Handshake Career Center, UMD graduate students and postdocs (note for postdocs: email Dr. Blessing Enekwe at blessing@umd.edu if you are not able to log in) also have access to the following free online tools and resources (and more!). These can be found by using the links below, or by clicking "Career Center" on the left-side panel and then "Resources."

Pathway U: PathwayU offers a variety of assessments and activities to help you self-reflect on your values and interests, and explore career matches. Access Pathway U.

Focus 2: FOCUS 2 provides a series of personality and workplace preference assessments that can help you identify your strengths and prepare for a successful career. You can register and create a free account by using the access code “goterps.”

LinkedIn Learning: LinkedIn Learning is a collection of skill-building courses that you can connect to your LinkedIn profile. Access LinkedIn Learning using your UMD username and password.

GoinGlobal: GoinGlobal is an international employment database that you can use to access career guides for different countries and search for jobs around the world. Access GoinGlobal via Handshake.

Big Interview: Big Interview is a platform where you can learn interviewing skills, practice answering both common and industry-specific interview questions, and receive coaching and feedback as you prepare for interviews. Access Big Interview by creating an account with your UMD email address.

Terrapins Connect

Terrapins Connect is an online platform designed to connect current Terps with Terp alumni. Through Terrapins Connect, you can join discussions, expand your network, search for job opportunities, discover potential career paths by industry, and find mentors. Access Terrapins Connect.

Beyond the Professoriate

Beyond the Professoriate is an e-learning platform for doctoral students and postdoctoral scholars to engage in asynchronous lessons, attend virtual webinars, and access a library of resources for both academic and nonacademic career paths. Learn more.
