English Editing for International Graduate Students

The English Editing for International Graduate Students (EEIGS) program provides free editing support for enrolled University of Maryland international students. Through this program, international students may submit portions of their required academic writing as Word documents. Volunteer editors from the university’s Volunteer Service Corps edit the students’ submissions using “tracked changes” in Word and return the documents to the students for review. This online service is available during the regular academic year.

Writing Workshops

The Graduate School Office of Writing Initiatives offers many workshops, of varying length, to support graduate students with their writing. All workshops are open to enrolled University of Maryland graduate students free of charge. Please see the Events section for the current workshop schedule.

Meet Simone

Simone Warrick-Bell (she/her/hers) joined The Graduate School in February of 2020. She has a Master’s in Counseling Psychology and is Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor with the State of Maryland. Prior to joining the Graduate School, Simone served the University community for six years as Care Manager of the Counseling Center, where her primary role was to provide case management services for undergraduate and graduate students and to provide long-term counseling support resources to them.

Consultation Policies

The Center for Writing & Oral Communication offers consultations by appointment only. Our writing fellows, all highly accomplished graduate students, are a limited resource shared by the university’s entire graduate student population of about 11,000. Because consultations are limited and in high demand, we ask that you please only schedule appointments that you will be able to keep. To ensure that the fellows are able to meet the demand for consultations, we implement the following policies:

Coping With COVID-19: Mental Health Resources

The COVID-19 outbreak had and continues to have a lasting impact on the emotional and mental health of the UMD community, impacting us even if we haven't directly encountered the virus. Disrupting daily routines and various aspects of life, such as academics and personal activities, it has affected different groups disparately. While some have found solace in adaptations like remote learning, others grapple with mental health challenges and grief.
