Remote Dissertation/Thesis Defense in a Public Health Emergency

The Graduate Council passed a policy to allow for remote thesis or dissertation defense in a public health emergency. 

All remote defenses must still abide by the Graduate School policy:

As we head into the home stretch of the Spring 2021 semester, thank you for your continued support of graduate education during these trying times. Below are updates on the campus plans for Fall 2021 in regards to thesis and dissertation defenses.

The David and Winifred "Winkle" Fulk Fellowship

The David and Winifred "Winkle" Fulk Fellowship Fund, established in 2021 by Mary C. Rack, provides​ support to​ doctoral students ​whose doctoral study focuses on mathematics education​. This is a $5000 summer research fellowship​ and supports projects and activities that further advance student's doctoral research. ​

Semester Dissertation Fellowships - Wylie and Lee Thornton

The Graduate School's Semester Dissertation Fellowship program includes the Ann G. Wylie Dissertation Fellowship and the Lee Thornton Endowed Fellowship. Dissertation fellowships provide full-time support to University of Maryland doctoral candidates who are in the latter stages of writing their dissertations.  Awarded students for AY 25-26 can choose to use the fellowship in either Fall 2025 or Spring 2026.

u.achieve Degree Auditing for Graduate Students

u.achieve is a degree auditing system that allows you to track your progress towards degree completion by auditing completed coursework, GPA information, and other tracking items specific to your graduate program. Any courses you are currently enrolled in will appear as "in-progress". u.achieve will be used as an advising, planning, and tracking tool within your graduate department.
