Graduate Assistants

Graduate Assistants are eligible for the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) and they are eligible for a State of Maryland Employee Health Insurance Plan.  These are DIFFERENT PLANS -  graduate assistants must decide which plan would be best for their needs. If opting for a State of MD plan or an external plan, GA's must submit a waiver for SHIP by the deadline (GA offer letters will be accepted).

More details about enrollment process for SHIP and for the State of MD Insurance plans are below

Leave of Absence Information

The university allows students in certain circumstances to apply for a leave of absence of up to two semesters or up to three 12-week terms during which time they do not intend to make academic progress toward the completion of their degree.

Qualifying Life Events

A qualifying life event is a major life-changing situation — sometimes planned, sometimes unexpected — that can impact you and your health insurance. Experiencing a significant life change may allow you to change your health plan outside of the annual enrollment period (also called open enrollment).
