Around the eighth grade, I was kind of like a lackluster student and, you know, like a, a B student. I wasn't that into school or anything. But I had a really amazing experience in my middle school band. And I had a band director that had inspired to do a better job and to push myself to be better and he got me paired up with a professional horn player who attended Julliard and she was a great, you know, positive female role model for me.

When I was looking at grad programs, I really didn't want a place where it was going to feel cutthroat competitive. I wanted a group of people who I could work well with and make friends for life with and I feel like I have that here.

I grew up in New York, but I've been living in the Washington, D.C./Maryland/ Virginia, area since about 2005.

My degree is in International Education Policy, but I work with the Engineering School, I work with the Anthropology School.

Maryland really allows you to, sort of, move between and amongst departments and colleagues which I- which I think is- is great for someone like me who likes to do interdisciplinary work.

I had this like book with me. And one page was like the crime rates (laugh). One page was the weather. And one page was the cost of living. So, I didn't want to go to a place with an extreme winter. I also wanted to still see winter, because I had never seen snow before. So, I thought like this area would be like the kind of the best balance, of because I was looking at the the ranks for the universities as well in chemistry.

I don't know exactly what got me into music, but I've been messing around with music since I was about five and its been so interesting to me since then that unsurprisingly, since I was 10 and started the trumpet, I've just been encapsulated. For as large of a student body as it is, it's, you s-, you see familiar faces when you're walking around every day.
