The Graduate School regards doctoral education and doctoral students as among its highest priorities. The global reputation of the University of Maryland as a premier research institution depends on the accomplishments of its doctoral students and alumni. In recognition of this fact, the Graduate School will host its fourth Campus Celebration of Doctoral Graduates on Monday, May 16, 2016, from 11:45 am-2:00 pm in the Samuel Riggs IV Alumni Center on the University of Maryland campus.

The Graduate School will host its Spring International Forum, China and India on the Global Stage: The Past, The Present, and the Likely Future on Monday, April 25, 2016, 3:00-5:00 p.m. in the Benjamin Banneker Room in the Stamp Student Union. Professor Anil K. Gupta, the Michael D. Dingman Chair in Strategy, Globalization and Entrepreneurship at the Robert H. Smith School of Business, will present the talk and lead subsequent discussion.

Each spring the University of Maryland celebrates graduate students who have made outstanding contributions to the University community in the areas of service, involvement, leadership, and scholarship. I invite you to nominate a graduate student for the 2015-2016 Graduate Student Distinguished Service Award. The award will be presented on Sunday, May 1, 2016 at the University Awards Program hosted by the Adele H. Stamp Student Union – Center for Campus Life and Omicron Delta Kappa.
Candidates for this award will be judged using the following award criteria:

Applications are now open for the Communicating Science 2016 workshop (http://comscicon.com/apply-comscicon16), to be held in Cambridge, MA on June 9-11th, 2016. Graduate students at US institutions in all fields of science and engineering are encouraged to apply. The application will close on March 1st.
Acceptance to the workshop is competitive; attendance of the workshop is free and travel support will be provided to accepted applicants.

The Adele’s Circle of Women Scholarship is intended to help deserving students, who advance the role of women and girls in their academic studies, extracurricular activities, and/or hope to do such in their professional lives. The scholarship seeks to aid emerging student leaders and/or recognize accomplished student leaders. The scholarship will help students manage costs associated with textbook expenses and related tuition costs, providing a $250 award to a current UMD undergraduate or graduate student.

Since 2012, the Graduate School has conferred an annual Outstanding Director of Graduate Studies Award and an Outstanding Coordinator of Graduate Studies Award. The two awards are intended to recognize a DGS and a CGS who have made exceptional contributions to graduate education, a graduate program, and/or the graduate student experience in that program.
