By Anna De Cheke Qualls Jenny Jinzhi Chen (‘03 PhD, Chemistry) was a first-time donor on Giving Day last month, and that’s a big deal. When something like this happens, we get to meet the international alum who, through an act of generosity, decided to support graduate education very directly.

A group of faculty, and administrators across the graduate enterprise were treated to presentations sponsored by the Graduate School on departmental holistic review processes. Astronomy's Stuart Vogel and the English Department's Kellie Robertson spoke at length about their experiences implementing holistic review while also working on inclusive retention initiatives.

The Graduate School sponsored the university-wide Three Minute Thesis competition yesterday, in which graduate students explain the significance of their research to a general audience in just three minutes. Competitors were selected from College or School-wide competitions held earlier in the semester. The winners were: Master’s and pre-candidacy doctoral students: Liang Liang, civil and environmental engineering, “Low Impact Development Mixture Evaluation for Heavy Metal Removal”
